What is the Best Hydraulic Oil for My 2 Post Lift and other types of Hydraulic Car Lifts?

When considering hydraulic oil, a question we are often asked is, which is better, 32 or 46? The short answer is that neither is better or worse. Ultimately, there are several factors that must be considered to determine which is the better option for your lift and your workshop.

Oil is rated and identified by its viscosity, which determines its ability to flow at different temperatures.

The lower the number, the thinner the oil and the more easily it flows. 32 is neither better nor worse than 46. The numbers refer only to the viscosity, not to the quality. Quality of the oil is determined by the manufacturer. Our supplier provides us with a premium quality hydraulic oil, formulated from high viscosity index solvent refined mineral base oils with additives to provide excellent protection against oxidation, corrosion, wear and foaming. Essential to provide long life to the ram seals.

For AMGO/Peak and E4G Car Lifts, 32 will flow better than in colder weather than 46. Customers with colder workshops may want to use 32. Above ground lifts located in heated wokshops may use either 32 or 46.

From experience we have found 32 oil works better all year round in our climate.

We supply 32 and 46 oil in both 5 litre and 20 litre containers. They are available via our website or call our office on 01727 875695.
