If you work as a mechanic then it is vital that you understand the importance of lift pads, which are situated at the end of each of a 2 post lift's four arms, hooked over or screwed to a metal plate. They are such an essential piece of garage equipment because they act as the only contact between the lift and the vehicle. Designed to protect the sills and the chassis of the car when it is raised, they can help to safeguard against damage to the vehicle, which will be crucial if you work in a commercial garage environment. You will need to change your lift pads over time as they become aged and worn with use. Continuing to use old lift pads can be incredibly dangerous, not only risking damage to the car but to yourself.

Buying the Right Lift Pads

There's a huge range of lift pads on the market and it can be difficult to know which pads are right for your 2 post lift. If you have an early 2 post lift manufactured by either Tecalemit or Kismet then you might need oblong pads, in comparison to the round pads seen on newer models of lift. Lift pads vary in size, from 100mm to 150mm and so you will need to make sure you buy the right size for the lift they will be used on. When lift manufacturers design new 2 post lifts they often change the style of pads, so this is another thing to keep an eye on when purchasing new lift pads. When ordering 2 post lift pads you should note the manufacturer and model number of the lift as well as the width and the depth of the metal plate.
