What is the Best Hydraulic Oil for My 2 Post Lift and Other Types of Hydraulic Car Lifts?
When it comes to selecting hydraulic oil, a common question we receive is: which is better, 32 or 46? The short answer is that neither is inherently better or worse. The decision depends on several factors, including the specific requirements of your lift and the conditions in your workshop.
Hydraulic oil is rated by its viscosity, which measures its ability to flow at various temperatures. A lower number indicates thinner oil that flows more easily. Therefore, 32 and 46 refer solely to viscosity and not to quality. The quality of the oil is determined by the manufacturer.
Our supplier provides premium quality hydraulic oil, formulated from high viscosity index solvent-refined mineral base oils with additives to offer excellent protection against oxidation, corrosion, wear, and foaming—crucial for prolonging the life of ram seals.
For AMGO/Peak and E4G car lifts, 32 viscosity oil flows better in colder weather compared to 46. Customers with colder workshops may prefer to use 32. For above-ground lifts in heated workshops, either 32 or 46 can be used. However, based on our experience, 32 viscosity oil performs better throughout the year in our climate.
We supply both 32 and 46 viscosity oils in 5-litre and 20-litre containers, available via our website or by calling our office at 01727 875695.
