All machinery sold within Europe must meet Directive 2006/42/EC, commonly known as the Machinery Directive.

Meeting The Machinery Directive With A 2 Post Lift

When purchasing new machinery, it is crucial to ensure it meets the required specifications and safety standards. Doing so helps prevent injuries, accidents, and potentially fatal incidents. One clear indicator of compliance and safety is the CE mark. When present, this mark guarantees that your scissor lift, 4 post lift, or 2 post lift is certified and safe for use in the UK.

What Does the CE Mark Indicate?

The CE mark demonstrates that your new lift complies with EU safety standards. Most products will be certified as meeting the directive by the manufacturer, agent, or supplier. However, the Machinery Directive specifies that lifts used for vehicle servicing must undergo an EC type-examination by a notified body. This examination ensures that the lift meets the essential Health and Safety Requirements (EHSRs) or that the manufacturer has fully adhered to National and International standards (BS EN 1493).

The Certification Process

Once the assessment is complete, the manufacturer, agent, or supplier must prepare a Declaration of Conformity and apply the CE mark to the equipment. This declaration should include details of the notified body that conducted the EC type-examination and the assessment method used, whether it is BS EN 1493 or the EHSRs.
