Lift pads are a vital piece of garage equipment - the only contact between the lift and the vehicle. They protect the sills and chassis of a car, guarding against damage to the vehicle, and their adjustment and placing is essential to keep a raised car stable and properly supported.

However, because they are in constant use, lift pads can become aged and worn over time. It is essential to replace them as soon as you notice this is happening.

Continuing to use worn lift pads is very dangerous. This could lead to the car becoming unstable on the lift. The vehicle could be damaged, or worse - you or a colleague could be severely injured.

Lift pads are found at the end of each of a two-post lift's four arms, hooked over or screwed to a metal plate. There is a huge range on the market and it can be difficult to know which pads are right for you.

For an early two-post lift, manufactured by Tecalemit or Kismet, you might need oblong pads rather than the round pads on newer models of lift. Lift pads vary in size from 100mm to 150mm, so you will need to make sure you buy the right size for your lift. When ordering lift pads you should note the manufacturer and model number of the lift, as well as the width and the depth of the metal plate.
