For this reason it is important to know the details and benefits this type of lift has to offer.  Two post lifts consist of two large columns that bolt into the concrete floor which each have two arms attached.  These arms twist back and forth and contract in and out in order to reach the lifting points of the vehicle.  There are two types of 2 post lifts, namely based and baseless.  The baseless or clear floor lift has cables and a hydraulic pipe which run in a gantry over the top of the lift posts.  The baseless configuration reduces trip hazards and allows the free movement of other equipment under the vehicle.  Based two post lifts have cables and hydraulic pipe work running over the ground.  Both based and baseless two post lifts can be further classified as symmetrical and asymmetrical lifts.  Symmetrical lifts will keep the vehicle centred on the lift, where as asymmetrical 2 post lifts keep the majority of the vehicle behind the posts.  This enables the user to open the doors wider even after the user has driven in between the columns.
